PONDA: Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes, who was at Ponda for various functions related to laying the foundation stone for underground power cabling work for Ponda and Marcaim constituency, said Government has begun Curti Power Sub Station gradation work recently and would complete it by Jan. 2024.
He said Curti’s power substation is one of Goa’s main power substations, and its up gradation was essential for quality and uninterrupted power supply.
He said two power lines from Karnataka and Maharashtra connect at Curti Power Sub Station. It distributes 60 to 70 per cent power load to Goa. He said power demand has increased this season to a 750-megawatt peak from earlier 600 megawatts.
He said Rs 50 Crore has been approved by the Government for the upgradation of the Curti Power Sub Station, and work on gradation began two months back and is expected to complete by January 2024. Already order has been placed for the main transformer with a capacity of 63Mva 220/33 kv, which will be installed at Curti Sub Station.
He said following this, the power supply would be smooth with improved quality voltage in various parts of Goa, including South Goa, Panajim, Verna, Sheldem, and North Goa Panajim through the Kadamba substation. Besides, Ponda Taluka would benefit much as it is close to Sub Station at Curti.
He praised Government, stating that the power department getting financial support from CM Pramod Sawant and Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar. Around Rs 800 crore worth of power improvement and power cabling works are launched first time within one year.
