CM Sawant participated in the National Conference of School Education Ministers chaired by Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Education Ministers of States and officials.
“Goa will be implementing and replicating the best practices of National Education Policy in the state; Discussions and deliberations have taken place regarding speeding up the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020,” said CM Sawant
Sawant said that the NEP would be implemented once the confidentiality of all institutions was maintained.
Goa government, last year, had appointed two sub committees headed to give recommendations for primary and higher secondary education.
Sawant, who also holds the Education portfolio, said that the committee had submitted their reports to the department, which was studying the recommendations.
The new education policy proposes a new curricular and pedagogical structure, with 5+3+3+4 design covering children in the age group 3 to 18 years. Under this there is five years of the Foundational Stage: 3 years of pre-primary school and Grades I, II.
As per the current education system, nursery, lower KG, upper KG is under pre-primary category, while the primary includes Class I to IV.
The policy aims to universalise the pre-primary education (age range of 3 to 6 years) by 2025 and provide foundational literacy and numeracy for all by the same year.
