PORVORIM:
In a stern address, Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte emphasized the importance of respectful behavior among tourists, particularly in the wake of a recent incident in Sangolda.
On Thursday, around 4:30 PM, a violent altercation near the Union Bank on Chogum Road in Sangolda was captured on video and went viral on social media. This incident has highlighted the need for tourists to adhere to local norms and respect the community.
The altercation involved a car with the registration number GA03Y 2099, driven by Salvaram Salgaonkar from Anjuna, Goa, which collided with a Fascino scooter bearing the registration number GA03AH 5187. The scooter rider, who was traveling in the same direction, became violent and assaulted Salgaonkar with helmets and fist blows.
Police Sub-Inspector Dishan Naik, acting on reliable information, apprehended two tourists from Baga, Faiz and Arkan, both residents of Nashik, Maharashtra. The two individuals, aged 23 and 22 respectively, were taken into custody and an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the law at the Saligao Police Station. The investigation is ongoing.
Minister Khaunte reiterated that while Goa welcomes tourists with the philosophy of “Atithi Devo Bhava” (the guest is God), it is imperative for visitors to behave responsibly and respect the local environment. He encouraged tourists to report any issues to the authorities to ensure a harmonious and safe experience for all.
