VASCO: GOACAN has called for an inquiry by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (DCSCA) into the circumstances that led to the death of 1 male consumer & the critical state of 3 others due to leakage from a domestic LPG cylinder.
The inquiry must be conducted by Civil Supplies Inspectors to determine whether the dealer supplying the LPG refills had conducted the Mandatory Mechanical Check (MMC) which is a Safety Check to be done once every 2 years and whether the date of the same was endorsed on the Domestic Gas Consumer Card?
It has to be also checked if the Insurance available to LPG Consumers in such cases of injury or death will result in compensation being paid to the families of the deceased man? It has to be also checked if the Safety Awareness required to be done in the locality for the benefit of LPG consumers was undertaken?
GOACAN has decided to pursue the matter with Jayant G. Tari, Director DCSCA and Sanjit Rodrigues IAS Secretary Consumer Affairs at a review meeting to be held shortly with officials of HPGAS, BharatGas, Indane and officials of other line Departments.
