PANJIM: GOACAN has written to the Directorate of Food and Drug Administration on the need for an Action Plan to prevent Food Loss and reduce Food Wastage in Goa.
In a letter to DFDA Director Smt. Jyoti Sardesai on the occasion of International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW), GOACAN has highlighted the need for constant awareness and an Action Plan which has the cooperation from the allied Departments and all stakeholders.
GOACAN in its letter has suggested that the issues of Food Loss and Waste Reduction be taken up with all the partners in Goa of the Eat Right Initiative (ERI) being promoted by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
This would provide the synergy required to source information & technical expertise and highlight best practices in Goa. This approach may be considered for the year 2020-21 till the observation of the next IDAFLW in 2021.
GOACAN has also suggested that the Departments of Legal Metrology, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and the Goa Waste Management Corporation be partners in preparing the points for the Action plan to Reduce Food Wastage.
While the Departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Fisheries be partners in preparing the points for the Action Plan to Prevent Food Loss.

Meanwhile GOACAN will continue the awareness drive by approaching stakeholders in the Tourism sector, Supermarkets, Restaurateurs and Merchants Associations among others to support the campaign to prevent Food Loss and reduce Food Wastage in Goa.
