Uttarakhand: In a landmark moment for Goa’s sporting history, Bhuvaneshwari Jadav, daughter of Sangeeta Jadhav, has secured the state’s first-ever gold medal in Kalaripayattu at the 38th National Games. Held in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025, this achievement not only highlights Bhuvaneshwari’s dedication and skill but also underscores Goa’s growing presence in traditional Indian martial arts on the national stage.
Bhuvaneshwari’s victory is a testament to her hard work and the increasing popularity of Kalaripayattu in India. Despite the martial art being relegated to the demonstration section of the National Games, her performance has inspired young martial artists across the country.
The Path to Gold
Bhuvaneshwari Jadav won the gold medal in the Kalaripayattu event, specifically in the Kaiporu category for girls above 60 kg, on January 30, 2025. Her journey to the top was marked by impressive victories against strong competitors from Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi. She secured a convincing win against Rajasthan with a score of 17-6, followed by a 14-5 victory against Haryana. The final match against Delhi was decided by a Golden Point, showcasing her exceptional skill and determination.
The medals were distributed with Delhi securing the silver and Haryana taking home the bronze. The Goa Kalaripayattu contingent, led by Secretary Deepak Amonkar and Coach Sudarshan Sampath, played a crucial role in Bhuvaneshwari’s success. Technical Official Ranjan Mullaratt oversaw the event, praising Bhuvaneshwari’s performance as a milestone for Goa and an inspiration for young martial artists.
