PANAJI: Goa put up a determined fight but fell 32 runs short against Chandigarh in a high scoring encounter in the CAP Under 19 Men’s Inter State One Day Tournament, also known as the Siechem Trophy 2026, at Siechem CAP Ground 2 on Thursday.
After winning the toss, Goa chose to bowl first but struggled to contain Chandigarh’s batting lineup, which posted a commanding 363 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. The innings was built around two outstanding centuries. Rupesh Yadav played a superb knock of 116 from 94 balls, while Rithwik Sood matched him with an equally impressive 111 off 91 deliveries. Meet Dahiya provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 32 to push Chandigarh to a daunting total.
Goa’s bowlers had a difficult outing, although Govind Sawal delivered the most effective spell with figures of 3 for 56. Vedant Dabral also made useful contributions by claiming two wickets.
Facing a challenging target of 364, Goa responded positively and remained in the contest for most of the chase. Aaditya Kota anchored the innings with a well compiled 86 from 80 balls, while Vinit Kamat added an important 61 to keep the required run rate under control.
The highlight of Goa’s reply came from Mohit Yadav, who produced a breathtaking late assault. His explosive 67 from just 39 balls, featuring three boundaries and five sixes, briefly raised hopes of a remarkable comeback. However, the asking rate proved too steep in the closing overs, and Goa eventually finished on 331 for 8 in their 50 overs.
For Chandigarh, Ankan Latka and Rupesh Yadav picked up two wickets each. Mohd Zaid, Rishit Saini, Gaganpreet Singh and Akul Bhanot chipped in with one wicket apiece, ensuring Chandigarh secured a deserved victory despite Goa’s spirited chase.
