PORVORIM: The opposition led by LoP Yuri Alemao today cornered the government over its failure to implement various facilities at SDGH. The opposition also termed it as a referral hospital.
Yuri Alemao raised concerns regarding SGDH, stating that the health sector is in a sorry state. He questioned whether it would be renamed as a Primary Health Center.
“Goa’s healthcare system is grappling with a severe shortage of specialists and healthcare staff, rendering our Sub District Hospitals and District Hospitals non-compliant with Indian Public Health Standards,” said Alemao
Alemao said that district hospitals should be named as Primary Health Centres. There are 1,80,256 referrals, 15,842 accidents and 900 people have died in a year.
In response, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane stated that it cannot be renamed, as it does not qualify as a primary hospital.
“ICU is functioning well and that Goa’s healthcare sector is performing better than those in other states,” said Rane
Rane said that the government is taking one step at a time to put up the best medical facilities at the South Goa district hospital.
