DABOLIM: Transport Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho chaired a joint meeting at the Village Panchayat Chicolna–Bogmalo to review issues faced by commuters travelling on the Vasco–Bogmalo bus route and discuss measures to improve public transport services.
The meeting was attended by the Sarpanch and Panch members of Village Panchayat Chicolna–Bogmalo, the Managing Director and officials of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials, Traffic Police personnel, including the Police Inspector, private bus operators and affected commuters.
Godinho heard concerns raised by residents regarding the availability and regular operation of buses, service frequency and the difficulties faced by passengers travelling between Vasco and Bogmalo.
Following the discussions, the Minister directed the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to improve the service. It was informed that the second Kadamba bus, which had not been operating on the route recently, would resume service from Friday.
He also directed officials to make arrangements for introducing a third KTCL bus on the route at the earliest to improve connectivity and reduce the inconvenience faced by commuters.
Godinho stressed that private bus operators must comply with prescribed requirements and ensure regular and reliable services. He directed the authorities to take strict action against operators who fail to meet the applicable requirements and cause inconvenience to passengers.
During the meeting, private bus operators raised concerns regarding their operations and sought assistance in enrolling under the Mhaji Bus Scheme. Godinho said he had previously advised the operators to avail themselves of the scheme and assured them that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
The Minister assured residents that their concerns would not be ignored and said he would personally follow up on the matter until the necessary improvements were implemented.
“The people of Bogmalo should not have to struggle for basic bus connectivity. Whenever our people face genuine difficulties, it is my responsibility to stand with them, listen to them and find solutions. I will continue to follow up with the concerned departments and ensure that the issues raised today are acted upon,” Godinho said.
He further emphasised that public transport plays a vital role in the daily lives of students, workers, senior citizens and other residents, and that commuters must have access to dependable and adequate connectivity.
Godinho directed KTCL, RTO and Traffic Police officials to coordinate and monitor the situation on the Vasco–Bogmalo route to ensure that the measures discussed at the meeting are implemented effectively and provide relief to commuters.
