PONDA: The State Government has set a target to encourage 200 cooperative Societies and to boost export, said Cooperation Minister Subash Shirodkar.
He also announced Shiroda, the first Sahakar Gram of Goa.
He was speaking after inaugurating 69th National Cooperative Week 2022 as well as 41 st year celebration in Goa State.
On occasion, present were NRI Commissioner Adv Narendra Savoikar, Secretary for Cooperation Rauf, keynote speaker Sanjay Krilapalkar, The Goa State Co-operative Union Ltd President Shrikant Naik, Goa State Cooperative Bank Chairman Ulhas Faldesai, Goa Dairy Chairman Rajesh Faldesai, Shiroda ZP Narayan Kamath, Shiroda Sarpanch Mugdha Shirodkar, Registrar or cooperative society Vishant Gaunekar, Mhalu Prabugaonkar.
Speaking further, Shirodkar said, as per Union Home Minister, India will have a five trillion economy in the future, and a 25 per cent share will be contributed by the Cooperation sector.
After Army and Industrial sectors, the cooperation sector ranks third in providing the maximum number of jobs. He said there are 5243 societies in the cooperation sector with leading Goa Bagayatdar and Adarsh Society at Quepem.
He said the cooperative sector needs honest people. Mapusa Urban and Margao Urban cooperative banks were forced to close due to the faults of some people.
He said the government needs to form 200 more cooperation societies in the next two years. The existing societies should convert into multipurpose ones. Zonal Officer encouraged 200 more additional cooperative units by 2023, said Subash Shirodkar.
He said they have set a 50 lakh turnover of export from only Shiroda Constituency and Shiroda village.
The various Bagayat products and fruits in Goa can fetch good revenue for local farmers through the cooperative sector. Better rates for agricultural produce are true honour of farmers,” he said.
He said he put 15 bhajan land, and five Khajan lands will be brought under cultivation.
He said in Goa, we set a target of 1000 farmers who should return to agriculture. All canals will have water. Cooperation, agriculture and WRD dept should not separate but come together. Seven talukas are cooperative, and the best talukas will be awarded next time.
