PORVORIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has informed the House that the government will positively pursue the issue of issuing e-visas for UK citizens.
“We have received a representation from the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) for issuing e-visas for Uk citizens,” said Khaunte.
He stated that the recommendation dated 13.06.2022 has been received from the Travel Tourism Association of Goa.
“, and suggestions were given by TTAG will be pursued at the appropriate forum,” he said.
Overall, Khaunte says, 3166 numbers of citizens of the UK arrived in the State during the year 2021.
“Goa is one of the most preferred destinations for UK tourists, and the Tourism Department will enhance its marketing and promotion efforts to attract tourists to Goa, including UK tourists. The commissioning of Mopa International Airport is also expected to boost international tourist arrivals in Goa,” he said.
Khaunte says due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and resultant guidelines issued by various ministries, the Government of Goa to contain the virus restricted the operation of charter flights from the UK to Goa and vice versa.
“The Government of India had also placed restrictions on international travel and issuance of tourist visas was kept on hold; hence charter flights could not land in Goa,” he said.
