MORMUGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has informed that the state government will chalk out a plan for division of flights at Dabolim and Mopa Internationals Airports by the next week.
“We will sit down and work out a plan in the next week for division of flights. If international flights go to Mopa then we will see that domestic flights will come to Dabolim,” said CM Sawant
He further assured people of Mormugao taluka that the government will not allow existing Dabolim airport to close down after commissioning of new Mopa airport.
“Government will plan division of flights between Dabolim and Mopa airports so that both airports function smoothly and develop connectivity facilities under the Centre’s “Gati Shakti” initiative to provide employment opportunities to locals,” he added
Sawant said that there are many plans to keep Dabolim Airport operational.
“Many have expressed concern about Dabolim airport. I want to assure them even after Mopa airport is operational this airport will not be shut down,” Sawant said
Chief minister said Mormugao Taluka is the only area where a port, airport and railways is within a 4-km range of each other and it has one of the best connectivity facilities which will be taken up under the Gati Shakti initiative.
“Once we use the Gati Shakti platform, Mormugao taluka will get maximum use of the port, Airport and Railway to increase import and export activity, thus generating a lot of employment to the locals of this taluka.”
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho had earlier expressed fear that Goa Dabolim Airport may shut down if local taxi operators fail to support ‘app-based taxi service.
“Once the Mopa Airport is operational and when they start giving top class transport facilities then Dabolim airport will suffer. If transportation mess continues at Dabolim then everyone will prefer to fly from Mopa,” he had said.
