CANACONA: Central Ground Water Board (under Rajiv Gandhi National Groundwater Training and Research Institute), an apex organization for groundwater under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, organized one day Tier III Training Programme on “Capacity Building for Participatory Ground Water Management “ to the Sarpanch’s, Panch members of Gaondongrim and Khotigao villages and Water Resource Department Officials of Canacona Taluka on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the Training programme Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar spoke about the utility of scientific training on groundwater resources to the participants.
Tawadkar also highlighted the importance of groundwater development and management aspects for the sustainability of groundwater resources at the village level.
Lauding the efforts of the Central Ground Water Board for conducting the one-day training programme for inculcating capacity building at the village level, Canacona Dy. Collector and SDO Ramesh N Gaonkar said this will further strengthen the participatory approach to groundwater management. WRD Goa Superintending Engineer Krishnakant S Patil emphasized the collaborative need for scientific studies between the Central Government and State Government that will ensure sustainable development and management of ground resources.
In her keynote address, Scientist-D and Officer in charge, CGWB, State Unit Office, Belagavi, briefed about the aims and objectives of the training program while welcoming the guests, including WRD Goa Superintending Engineer Krishnakant S Patil.
Earlier, Scientist, CGWB, State Unit office, Belagavi Sushant S Navarat welcomed, while scientist CGWB, SWR Bengaluru Mayank Dixit proposed a vote of thanks.
During technical session lectures were delivered by respective Scientists of central Ground Water board Sangita P Bhattacharjee, Scientist-D and Officer in charge, CGWB, State Unit Office, Belagavi spoke on Introduction to Basic Hydrogeology, Rainwater Harvesting, Water Conservation & Artificial Recharge while Sushant S Navarat, Scientist, CGWB, State Unit office, Belagavi provided in-depth knowledge on Hydrogeological Conditions and Ground Water Scenario of Gaondongrem & Cotigao- with specific emphasis upon participatory approach for Groundwater Management.
The training program ended with positive feedback from trainees numbering more than 130, and certificates, training module and training kits were distributed to them.
