PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa today issued notice to State government over a petition filed by Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar seeking 12% reservation for Schedule Tribes in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
The Division Bench issued notice to State government and other respondents including Chief Elector Office in the matter, which will be heard on October 27.
Gaonkar, MLA from Sanguem, had moved HC pleading for necessary directions to the Government authorities to reserve 12% Assembly constituency seats for Schedule Tribe.
The ST community constitutes around 12% of total State’s population.
