PANAJI: High Court of Bombay at Goa has set aside verdict of the trial court and acquited accused Pratima Naik.
The trial court had sentenced Pratima Naik to life imprisonment after convicting her for killing mother in law Usha Naik and sister in law Neha Naik
It may be recalled that on January 30, 2015, 59-year-old Usha Naik and her 26-year-old daughter-in-law Neha, were brutally murdered, allegedly by Usha’s second daughter-in-law Pratima, in connivance with her sister’s husband Abhijit Korgaonkar.
On February 3, Pratima Naik was arrested by the Vasco Police under the suspicion of having hatched the murder of her sister-in-law and mother-in-law.
Pratima later confessed to having committed the crime along with Abhijit.
The needle of suspicion always pointed towards Pratima, as her statements in connection with the murder were inconsistent.
The incident came to light when Pratima, who was bleeding following a stab wound and a head injury, rushed out of the flat at around 3.45 am and alerted the society secretary Baburao Naik.
Charges were framed against Pratima and Abhijit in September 2015. The accused faced trial for charges under Sections 328, 380, 302 read with 34 of the IPC.
Pratima has been convicted under sections 302, 380 and 328 of IPC.
Abhijit turned an approver in the case.
