PANAJI: Tourism Minister Babu Azgoankar has said that various tourism activities are proposed in the Tourism Master Plan including development and promotion of Hinterland Tourism in the state.
“Various tourism activities are proposed in the Tourism Master Plan including development and promotion of Hinterland Tourism in the state and accordingly, GTDC has taken up and also proposed many works to upgrade infrastructure works of places of touristic information,” said Azgoankar
He further said that department has started registration of activities related to Hinterland Tourism under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982 w.e.f. 01/04/2021 and the licence fees are maintained at reasonable level.
Of the hinterland projects already in the pipeline in Bicholim, are the Redevelopment of Bondla Zoo; Development of an adventure park in Mayem Lake and Upgradation of Arvalem falls site. All the three projects are under consideration, as per the survey report.
As the agency suggests developing and marketing hinterland tourism, it has also observed that Goa’s hinterland has been largely away from the financial benefits of tourism generated in the State. At the same time, the region has also been largely protected from the negative effects of mass tourism. Developing hinterland tourism therefore implies avoiding repeating the mistakes made in the coastal region.
