PANAJI: In what could spark a controversy, the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today said that the “history forced upon us has been propaganda of the west”
“In my opinion History should be an independent representation of the occurrences that have happened in the past. One can have his own interpretation based on experience and intellect, but moreover History has to be fact driven and not opinion driven; Unfortunately, in our country, the History that has been forced upon us, has been the propaganda of the West and what they thought about us,” said CM Sawant
He further said that his government will make it a point to Re-print Veer Sawarkar’s books namely १८५७ चे स्वातंत्र्य समर and गोमंतक on immediate basis.
“We will circulate these books along with the ones written by Vikram Sampath in all the libraries in Goa. Veer Sawarkar also highlighted the importance of being Swayampurna in every sense. He started by coining parallel Indian words to replace English words,” he added
He further said that through his book, १८५७ चे स्वातंत्र्य समर, he challenged the might of the British Empire and brought forth the daredevilry (डेअर-डेववलवर) of our glorious patriots who fought bravely against the British oppression.
“This book ignited the flame of patriotism among many youth and the British regime banned this book. Fortunately, only one copy of this book was saved with a Goan person, and this helped in getting it re-printed,” he added
Meanwhile, Sawant said that Sawarkar was an unsung hero, who fought the British regime, faced the most brutal punishment and yet after India’s independence a section of people have only spread lies, falsehood and hatred against him.
