PANAJI: On May 9, 2024, the Cyber Crime Police Station (PS) opened a case (Cr. No. 19/2024) in accordance with several provisions of the Trademarks Act, the Information Technology (IT) Act, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). An employee of Big Daddy Casinos filed a complaint alleging the establishment of phony online gaming portals that mimicked the complainant’s business.
Adla Nithin Reddy, a 22-year-old dropout from Hyderabad’s Vignana Bharti Institute of Technology, was identified as the main suspect following a thorough investigation. Reddy, who had studied computer science, created the phony websites with ChatGPT’s help, using the domain provider “Hostinger.”
After following the suspect’s travels throughout India, a Cyber Crime PS team under the direction of PI Deepak Pednekar was able to capture Reddy at a five-star South Goa hotel. It was revealed during questioning that Mr. Reddy planned the scam in order to make money.
The accused has been given four days of police custody by the court and is presently being held by the Cyber Crime PS. Authorities are still probing the accused’s complex web of deceit as part of their ongoing investigation.
Rahul Gupta, superintendent of police (SP) for cybercrime, stated that they discovered the suspect operated from several locations across the nation. It was discovered through data analysis that Reddy was presently residing in Hyderabad.
To arrest Reddy, a team led by head constables Yogesh Khandeparkar and Nazir Sayed, police inspector Deepak Pednekar, and police sub-inspector Sanit Kavlekar was dispatched right away to Hyderabad, according to Gupta.
Reddy admitted to the investigative team that he used an artificial intelligence app to create the website with help from a paid domain provider. According to Gupta, he has been placed under arrest for four days on remand.
