New Delhi: DMK leader and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin has denied making any objectionable remarks against actor Trisha Krishnan, asserting that his speech was entirely focused on farmers’ issues and backed by factual evidence.
Speaking after nearly 90 minutes of questioning at the Sengipatti Police Station in Thanjavur, Udhayanidhi accused the Tamil Nadu government of treating him “like a terrorist” and alleged that democratic rights were being suppressed.
Rejecting the allegations, he said his speech primarily highlighted the challenges faced by farmers and reviewed the performance of ministers over the past three months. He claimed that authorities had attributed statements to him that he never made.
Udhayanidhi alleged that portions had been added to his speech to build the case against him. He maintained that he had not spoken disrespectfully about anyone and that his remarks were solely intended to raise issues affecting the farming community.
The DMK leader said his only appeal during the public meeting was for the Chief Minister to convene an all party meeting to discuss the ongoing water issue. He reiterated that his speech centred on farmers’ demands and denied making any objectionable comments involving actor Trisha Krishnan.
Expressing confidence in the legal process, Udhayanidhi said he was prepared to contest the case in court. He also announced that all DMK MLAs would meet the party leadership ahead of the upcoming Assembly session.
The questioning took place after a case was registered over remarks allegedly made by Udhayanidhi during a public gathering. The incident has triggered a political controversy, with the DMK accusing the government of misrepresenting his speech.
After leaving the police station, Udhayanidhi was greeted by a large number of DMK workers and supporters who had gathered outside, raising slogans in his support.
Actor Maria Juliana also criticised the action against the DMK leader, alleging that the case was fabricated by twisting his remarks and describing it as an attempt to curb the democratic right to express opinions. Udhayanidhi, however, continued to insist that his speech was entirely about farmers and their concerns.
