PERNEM: Pernem Police have registered a case of illegal sand transportation after intercepting a tipper truck on the NH-66 stretch at Naibag slope in Porascadem on Monday afternoon.
According to police, the offence was registered based on a state complaint filed by PSI Prathmesh Parsekar. The incident occurred on May 4 at around 1:00 pm when the accused, identified as Dinesh Yadav (37), a driver residing at Mulem, Paroda, was found transporting river sand without valid authorization.
The accused was allegedly carrying approximately 7 cubic metres of river sand, estimated to be worth ₹20,000, in a Tata tipper truck (GA-04-T-3571) for personal gain. Police stated that the act amounts to theft of government property.
The vehicle owner, Shahanoor Sandhi (31), a resident of Mulem, Paroda, has also been booked in the case for his alleged involvement.
Police have seized the vehicle and initiated further investigation to ascertain the source of the sand and any possible links to illegal mining activities.
