Aspiring designers put on a dazzling display of creativity at the HIDE Fashion Show hosted by the prestigious JD School of Design powered by JD Institute of Fashion Technology as part of the Hospitality Interior & Design Expo 2023.
The show transcended the realms of fashion, architecture, and interior design. The mesmerising event witnessed designers seamlessly blending the aesthetics of architecture and interior design into their fashion creations.
The event, held on 14th October 2023, captivated attendees with a remarkable display of creativity and a profound exploration of design’s influence on the fashion world.
The Intercollegiate Fashion Show Contest, a stunning convergence of young, dynamic designers from multiple institutions, was a platform for these budding talents from V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education, Raia; Don Bosco College, Panjim; Father Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar. The showcase seamlessly blended the aesthetics of architecture and interior design into their fashion creations. This unique fusion of design disciplines aimed to inspire students to think outside the conventional fashion box, pushing the boundaries of creativity.
Gold Elegance: Architecture Throughout Time by V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education, was a fusion of art, history, and style. The designers paid homage to architectural marvels that celebrated the timeless allure of gold, symbolizing grandeur and opulence.
Casa da Elegância by Father Agnel College of Arts and Commerce; where beauty met function in inspiring spaces and captivating designs. The aspiring designers explored a world of untamed curiosity, forever acclaimed, with an amalgamation of marvelous ideas.
Don Bosco sought inspiration from architecture and designed garments by blending old and new, including elements from Renaissance, Gothic, and Italian architecture for a trending style. Each outfit was complex and unique, featuring chandeliers, frames, lamps, curtains, and an ambient finish, creating a superb display of design.
The event featured an illustrious panel of jury members, renowned Goan fashion designers – Ms. Philu Martins and Ms. Ninoshka Alvares-Delaney. Each of whom brought their unique perspective and insights to the table. They showered the participants with praise and shared words of wisdom for the aspiring designers.
The contest was followed by a showcase by JD School of Design’s fashion design alumni. Fuso Straordinario by Aloysia Nunes; A Letter to Van Gogh by Jessica Colaco; The Virtues of Ghor by Beverly Mascarenhas. These talented alumni are shining examples of the talent and creativity fostered by the premier design institute.
“JD is a great college and I have seen the quality of the work presented by the students is quite professional. There is thorough balance in design to what they present, they are doing a great job,” shared by well-known Goan fashion designer, Ms. Philu Martins. Her parting words of advice to the aspiring designers were, “Right now there is tremendous scope in the fashion industry. All I can say is more practice, hard work, persistence and love for what you are doing will definitely take you to where you want to be.”
The fashion show not only served as a platform for aspiring designers to showcase their talents but also as a powerful tool to boost their confidence and enhance their knowledge about the extensive impact of design in our daily lives. It was a momentous event that allowed them to recognize the transformative power of design and how it can influence and shape the world we live in.
Finally, the evening culminated in the announcement of the winners, who demonstrated exceptional creativity and skill. The winning designs represented the epitome of innovation and creativity in fashion and design.
The Winner title was clinched by Don Bosco College, Panjim and the Runner-Up of the fashion show was V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education.
