LONDON: A vibrant and heartwarming Christmas celebration took place at the Indian High Commission in London, hosted by High Commissioner H.E. Vikram Doraiswami. The event was marked by a series of joyous activities and meaningful moments that underscored unity, cultural pride, and community spirit.
The celebration began with the arrival of esteemed guests H.E. Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia, the Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain. A ceremonial switching-on of the Christmas lights, performed by Archbishop Buendia alongside the High Commissioner, symbolized the start of the festive reception, filling the venue with warmth and holiday cheer.
The program commenced with a warm welcome from the master of ceremonies to an audience that included Lords, MPs, community members, and other dignitaries. The ambiance was elevated by a stirring performance of Christmas carols by the 14-member Bernardi Music Group, whose melodious renditions of festive classics captivated the audience.
H.E. Mr. Vikram Doraiswami delivered a heartfelt message on the essence of Christmas. Following this, H.E. Archbishop Buendia shared an inspiring Christmas message centered on hope, love, and togetherness, resonating deeply with the audience.
The gathering showcased the diversity of the Indian diaspora in the UK, with a significant presence of Goans. Distinguished attendees included Cllr. Imtiyaz Shaikh Mayor of Swindon, Cllr. Adorabelle Shaikh, former Mayor of Watford Cllr. Rabi Martins, the Pilar Fathers, members of The Goan Association, UK, and Chef Clanny Rodrigues. The gathering Goans praised the efforts of Clayton Barreto, S.Secretary to the High Commissioner, for ensuring meticulous attention to detail in coordinating the event alongside others promoting Goa. Many attendees commended Clayton for extending invitations to the Goan community and highlighting Goan talent, such as Chef Clanny, who played a central role in the evening’s festivities.
The highlight of the evening was the ceremonial cutting of a magnificent Christmas cake, baked by Chef Clanny Rodrigues, a finalist in The Great British Bake Off: The Professionals 2020. The cake-cutting, performed jointly by Archbishop Buendia and the High Commissioner,symbolized unity and celebration, leaving a lasting impression on all present.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, after which guests enjoyed refreshments in the beautifully adorned Nehru and Gandhi Halls. Attendees from Goa praised the seamless organization and warm hospitality, which Clayton Barreto played a pivotal role in orchestrating. His dedication to spotlighting Goan culture and talent was particularly celebrated by the Goan attendees, who appreciated his efforts in fostering inclusivity and pride in their heritage.
