KARAPUR: After 161 days of continuous agitation, residents of Karapur have decided to temporarily suspend their protest against the proposed ‘One Goa’ project of The House of Abhinandan Lodha.
The decision follows the Karapur-Sarvan Panchayat issuing a notice directing that work on the project be stopped. Residents said the panchayat’s intervention has led them to pause the street protest, but stressed that it does not amount to withdrawing their opposition to the development.
The project has been at the centre of sustained resistance from sections of the local community, with residents raising objections over its proposed development in Karapur.
Announcing the decision, the protesters said their campaign would now shift its focus towards the legal avenues available to them. They maintained that proceedings challenging the project would continue and that they would closely monitor further developments.
The residents also made it clear that the 161-day protest should not be viewed as permanently concluded. They said they would consider resuming the agitation if circumstances required it or if work on the project proceeded despite the panchayat’s notice.
For the residents, the panchayat’s latest action marks a temporary pause in a prolonged confrontation, while the dispute over the proposed project remains subject to the ongoing legal battle.
The protesters reiterated that their opposition to the project remains firm and that they would continue pursuing the matter through legal and democratic means.
