CANACONA: In a midnight operation, Karnataka Excise officials detained a Tanker with Karnataka Registration smuggling IMFL liquor bottles from Goa on Wednesday midnight
According to sources, the Karnataka Excise Sub-Inspector M M Naik at Majali Checkpost, acting on a tip-off, stopped a Tanker bearing registration no KA-05 AL-1721 at about 2.30 am on Wednesday midnight.
The Tanker was searched at length and breadth and recovered a total of 111 IMFL liquor bottles of different brands of Whiskey and Brandy of 83.250 Litres.
The Tanker’s driver is taken into custody, and the Tanker is detained for further investigation. The investigation is reportedly being jointly conducted by Karnataka Excise and Karnataka Police.
The Tanker is known to have crossed Polem Checkpost on Goa’s Border, located 100 meters away in Goa’s territory.
Incidentally, it is learnt that an unknown informant tipped Karnataka Excise at Majali Checkpost that a vehicle with a certain registration number was transporting an illegal liquor consignment from Goa.
Karnataka Excise Sub-inspector M M Naik, positioned at Majali Checkpost, credited his staff for quick action, saying though we regularly and normal duty process we conduct the checking, we also received specific information pointing fingers at a specific vehicle, after which tightened our surveillance and found the vehicle has come by 2.30 am at our gate.
The liquor consignment is from Goa, but it will be valued as per Karnataka rates to know the exact value of the contraband. The value of the Tanker is how considered between 45-50 Lakhs. We are honestly functioning as our seniors also support us, and we get interested in working and giving output. Our staff is also good, and government also is very supportive.’
