CANACONA – Karnataka Excise officials are on fire, as yet another truck smuggling IMFL liquor from Goa is detained at Majali Checkpost at Goa -Karnataka at Polem on Thursday night.
The detained truck bearing registration no. KA 01 AJ 5751 was loaded with Sanitaryware items and was headed to Bangalore, but when frisked in-depth, found 105 Liquor/(whiskey, Brandy) IMFL bottles concealed amidst the Sanitaryware (Washbasins, Commodes, etc.) consignment.
Karnataka Excise team posted at the Majali Checkpost had just switched over with a new team headed by Excise Sub-inspector P K Haldankar at 8 O’clock when tr the Excise PC’s Suresh P H, N N Khan and N G Joglekar, who has just reported for their shift stopped the loaded truck bound to Bangalore for a routine check-up.
The team found something suspicious and thoroughly screened the original Sanitaryware consignment only to stumble upon the 105 liquor bottles of different brands (whiskey, Brandy, and also packaged Cashew feni).
The 83.750 litres of Liquor contraband is valued at 98,000/- in Karnataka. Besides, the compounded Truck is about eight lakhs of rupees, informed an official of Karnataka Excise when questioned. Besides detaining teh truck, the driver of the Vehicle is also taken under arrest, and Karnataka Excise and Police are investigating the case further.
This is the second prized catch for Karnataka Excise within 24 hours, as only the previous (Wednesday) night, the Karnataka Excise team led by Excise Sub-inspector M M Naik detained a tanker carrying liquor bottles worth around a lakh of rupees.
