PANAJI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday criticised the BJP government’s healthcare policy in Goa, alleging that the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY) is inadequately designed and fails to provide comprehensive health coverage to families facing serious medical conditions.
Kejriwal said the existing DDSSY scheme covers only 447 medical procedures and excludes several critical treatments, leaving many patients without adequate financial support during health emergencies.
Drawing a comparison with healthcare initiatives implemented by the AAP government in Punjab, he demanded that the DDSSY health insurance cover be increased to ₹10 lakh per family.
The AAP leader also called for the removal of all eligibility restrictions under the scheme so that every Goan can avail of health insurance benefits without conditions.
According to Kejriwal, the scheme should be redesigned to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage across a wider range of medical procedures and treatments rather than being restricted to a limited list of approved procedures.
He said access to quality healthcare should be a universal right and urged the state government to strengthen the health insurance framework to ensure better financial protection for families facing medical expenses.
Kejriwal’s remarks came as part of the AAP’s ongoing campaign highlighting issues related to public healthcare and social welfare in Goa.
