VASCO: The coast witnessed three rescues earlier today.
The survivors were all-male, rescued in two separate rescue operations involving fishing boats by lifesavers from Team Drishti.
A fishing boat capsized earlier today off the coast of Baina, throwing all 10 fishermen overboard. The incident took place at 14.30 hours. While others started swimming towards the shore, two males got caught into the current are were being swept into the sea.
Drishti lifesavers present at the beach spotted the incident and rushed into the water towards the group of fishermen. All five lifesavers
Yallappa Chalwadi, Hussain Halkeri, Anand Madar, Yallgurdappa Madar and Sidram Chalwadi rushed in with rescue tubes and jet skis.
They moved towards the duo, struggling to stay afloat, and secured them to a rescue tube. The other lifesavers assisted the fishermen who were swimming back to shore.
All 10 fishermen were assisted back to shore safely.
A fishing boat’s engine shut off in a second rescue at Velsao beach and refused to start. The boat was stranded a hundred and fifty meters out at sea. Due to the high waves, it began to rock vigorously while drifting towards the shore. One crew member jumped into the water in panic but was safely rescued by lifesavers Kashappa and Ravishankar with the help of a jetski.
This is the third incident this month where lifesavers came to the aid of fishermen involved in fishing boat-related incidents.
