PANAJI: Former Chief Minister of Goa and current Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik told athletes to have fun in Goa but avoid drinking alcohol even if it’s really cheap in a lighthearted comment at the inauguration of the 37th National Games.
While addressing athletes participating in the National Games, Naik said on Wednesday, “Liquor is cheap in Goa, and so are cashew nuts, but you should not drink it because you are national players.”
The grand opening ceremony of the 37th National Games was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao, marking the first time that the event was being held in Goa. The games are scheduled to run until November 9, with over 10,000 athletes participating.
The multi-sport event saw a grand opening ceremony that lasted five hours and included performances by 600 artists. The torch was handed over to the Prime Minister by Goa-born professional windsurfer Katya Ida Coehlo and India men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh.
