CANACONA: In a surprise and sudden move Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Pratiza Bandekar put in her papers to resign from the chair citing personnel reasons for the unannounced step on Wednesday.
According to reliable sources, Pratiza personally visited the Directorate of Panchayat office in Panjim to put through her resignation letter on Wednesday.
In her resignation letter she wrote that she is compelled to resign on account of her personal difficulties and she is unable to perform the duties entrusted to her hence the decision to resign from the post of Sarpanch of the village.
When asked, Pratiza Bandekar informed she had resigned due to her personnel reasons, the reason she had emphasized in her short resignation letter to the Director of Panchayat, giving a clear hint that something is wrong in her sudden steps.
There are however claims that a few has hijacked the panchayat affairs and not allowing sarpanch to function independently.
However, Pratiza’s sudden step to resign from the post of Sarpanch (Reserved for Woman) she was appointed a year ago for the complete 5-year term raised a few eyebrows in the village, late Wednesday evening.
According to the same reliable sources, Pratiza had felt disrespected, under-valued, harassed and is not allowed to work or function properly in the 9-members Loliem-Polem panchayat.
“Though Pratiza is a sarpanch, she is there only for the name sake, as some of the senior and seasoned panch members are virtually running the panchayat affairs even to the extent of exercising control and dictating terms to the Panchayat staff, not even showing scant respect to the Woman Sarpanch,” souces informed.
According to the sources, the go ahead signal to Loliem communidade and its proposal to ESG to set-up a ‘Film City’ at the eco-sensitive Bhagwati Plateau has turned out to be the turning point to Pratiza Bandekar, as the same senior panch members who have earlier not favoring and instrumental in passing a Resolution not to allow any sorts of developments on ‘Bhagwati Plateau’, are now favoring a ‘Film City’, and began to pressurize the Sarpanch.
While sarpanch, most panch members and the villagers strongly not in favor of permitting any ‘development or ‘Film City’ on Bhagwati plateau, Pratiza had reportedly decided to exit the Sarpanch ‘s chair, rather than be a party to favor ‘Film City’ in the village against the people’s wishes.
While sources claims, that even Canacona MLA and GLA speaker Ramesh Tawadkar has endorsed Pratiza Bandekar to complete the full term, but Pratiza had not even consulted Tawadkar before putting in her papers, informs that no one wants to come on records to quote or cite the actual resignation reasons for fear of upsetting the people in Powers.
Present 9-members Loliem-Polem panchcyat has 4 women panch members and all first-timers, while out of the remaining 5 male counterparts, atleast two are former Sarpanch’s of the village, and a third one Chandrakant Sudhir is presently Dy. Sarpanch.
