MAPUSA: Lord Babreshwar Jatra was celebrated along Calangute beach with devotion and religious fervour. This Jatra is famous as Kelyanchi Jatra all over Goa.
The speciality of this jatra is stashing bananas on the roof of the temple. Devotees offer a banana bunch Keleyache Ghod to Lord Babreshwar after their prayers are answered.
Calangute MLA Michael lobo has said that several religious festivals in the state helps in maintaining communal harmony and this is evident only in the state of Goa
Lobo was speaking to reporters after paying his obeisance to the deity of dev babreshwar at the 59th annual zatra of dev babreshwar at the babreshwar temple at baga calangute
“This famous festival also known as the banana festival brings togather all the people irrespective of the their religion also a number of foreign tourists also visit this temple to pay their obeisance to the deity of Lord Babreshwar
The bunch is later tied to the temple’s roof. A few days later these bunches are auctioned. As the temple is very close to Calangute beach, the Jatra is known as the Banana Festival worldwide said temple president Chandrakant Chodankar
