PANAJI: All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Goa Incharge Mahua Moitra today said that her party will do everything possible to defeat the BJP in Goa.
Moitra also said that Mamata Banerjee will not shy away from walking an extra mile in Goa.
“Rest assured, we the AITC will do everything possible to defeat BJP in Goa- Goa Forward Party, Congress and TMC; Mamata Banerjee has done it in the past and will not shy away from walking the extra mile in Goa too,” said Moitra
High-level talks are underway to carve out a possible larger alliance in Goa to defeat the BJP.
“Congress, GFP in talks with TMC-MGP alliance. Sources said that all parties want to unite in their fight against BJP,” sources said.
Banerjee had earlier informed that she had met Sardesai and discussed the matter with him. In addition, she also revealed that the TMC does not want to divide the votes and has therefore reached out to regional parties to defeat the BJP. However, she also said that it is the GFP’s call on whether it will ally with the TMC.
“TMC had already formed an alliance with parties in Goa to fight the BJP , and if the Congress so wished, it could join them. “This is the alternative,” Banerjee had said.
Meanwhile, GFP President Vijai Sardesai has called for a united opposition to end the ‘corrupt and communal regime’ in Goa. Moreover, he has also urged the opposition to take the 2022 Goa Assembly elections seriously while asserting that he has been ‘rooting for a strong Team Goa’ to take on the BJP.
“BEAT THEIR GAME PLAN! @BJP4Goa will use #COVIDThirdWave restrictions to manipulate the electoral process to grab power. We must, along with
@INCGoa, @AITC4Goa and #MGP must see this danger, rise above our egos, and thwart this plan to divide and rule. This is what #Goa wants.,” tweeted Sardesai.
When questioned about his tweet, wherein he has urged people to support like-minded political parties which are against BJP, Sardessai said that during his door to door campaigning, he has urged his voters and Goans to support the opposition parties given that the BJP has been cheating and misusing its power by continuing public meetings, rallies. In contrast, other political parties are discouraged from doing so. During Zilla Panchayat Election and during the Municipal election when the second wave of CoVID19 had started, BJP did public meetings etc, and at that time, voting turnout was very low, and it adversely affected the election outcome.
He further mentioned that if like-minded opposition parties come together, we could defeat BJP, or BJP will again come to power and destroy our generations.
