CANACONA – A trip to Agonda turned tragic to one of the two visiting Tourists from Bhusaval (Maharashtra) drowned in the choppy waters of the Arabian Sea off Agonda beach Coast on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Canacona police, Vivek Murai drifted into the sea while he and his friend were swimming in the seawaters on Tuesday afternoon.
After his friend noticed Murai had drifted away by the strong undercurrent and soon disappeared in the choppy waters, he raised the alarm for help.
Dhristhi Life-Savers noticed the emergency situation rushed on jetski scooters towards the direction, and were lucky enough to notice the drowning man and swiftly dragged him onto the shore/sands.
Following the weather conditions recently, the sea has reportedly become rough and dangerous since the last few days, with strong under-current becoming an order of the day.
Agonda sea, known for its dangerous behaviour, particularly during acute weather conditions, is more treacherous, particularly in the vicinity of the drowning incident reported on Tuesday.
The almost lifeless drowned person was given necessary first-aid measures to revive; however, they noticed no movements till the 108 Ambulance reached and took control of the situation.
According to sources, the 108- Ambulance with the drowning victim got stranded on reaching Dumane after puncture of its tyres.
It is learnt that some critical moments were lost, while services of another Ambulance were requisitioned, and when reached the CHC, the doctor declared the drowned victim as brought dead on arrival.
Sources, however, pointed out the victim showed no signs of life when the Dristhi Life-Savers pulled him out from the sea and made first-aid attempts.
The body is preserved at Margao District Hospital mortuary, informed Canacona police, investigating the drowning incident.
According to Canacona Police Investigation Officer PSI Ramchandra Naik, the deceased, along with his friend from Bhusaval (Maharashtra), had come to Goa as Tourists on Sunday and after two days stay at Anjuna, the duo only on Tuesday morning had checked-in into a beachside resort at Agonda, and by afternoon time ventured out to swim into the seawaters just in front of their Resort facing the sea.
The incident is reported between 12.30 pm to 1 pm on Tuesday afternoon.
