Margao: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao today wrote a Letter to the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to make Academic knowledge of Konkani compulsory for all Government Recruitments. He has urged the Chief Minister to initiate process in this direction by taking academicians into confidence. Mere Knowledge of Konkani will allow Outsiders to grab Jobs depriving Niz Goemkars in future, stated Yuri Alemao in his Letter.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has also cited various Government Notifications pertaining to Recognition of Konkani as Official Language of Goa and making knowledge of Konkani Essential for all Government Recruitments in Group A, B and C. He has also pointed that there is nothing new in the Statement made by the Chief Minister few days back making Knowledge of Konkani compulsory for Group A & B Posts as the said Provision is already notified by the Government almost 10 years back.
Government should make Academic Knowledge of Konkani compulsory for all Government Recruitments which will ensure that the Students learn Konkani in Schools & Colleges. This will help to preserve our Regional Language and also ensure Jobs to Locals, claimed Yuri Alemao in his Letter.
The Letter further states “We need to formulate a long term plan to ensure our next generations study our Mother Tongue Konkani. Knowledge of the Local language also helps in building up connectivity among the Government Officials and Public. I hope the Government will consider my Suggestion positively”.
LoP Yuri Alemao has also brought it to the notice of the Chief Minister that the New Education Policy (NEP) also emphasizes on Education in Mother Tongue. If the Academic Knowledge of Konkani is made compulsory, the decision will also strengthen effective implementation of NEP in the State. Government needs to revisit the entire Recruitment process with long term perspective.
There is rapid change in the Demography of the State. Any Outsider who resides in Goa can grasp workable Knowledge of Konkani for simple conversations within a span of two months as Konkani is relatively an easier Language to learn. A Hindi or Marathi speaking person can adapt to writing and speaking skills in Konkani in a short span of time without learning Konkani in Schools, mentioned Yuri Alemao in his Letter.
