CANACONA: In the early hours of Wednesday, a grim discovery was made in Canacona, Goa, when the body of a 49-year-old man was found in a drainage ditch near the Deputy Collector’s office in Chaudi. The deceased, identified as Yadu alias Damu Gavde, was a native of Uttar Kannada in Karnataka and had been employed with a Coca-Cola distributor in the area.
The Canacona police received a call reporting the presence of a male body in the drainage. With the assistance of the Canacona Fire & Emergency Services, the police retrieved the body and transported it to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Canacona via a 108 ambulance. Upon examination, the doctor on duty declared the man dead.
Investigations revealed that Gavde had gone missing from his rented room behind the CHC Hospital in Chaudi around 1:00 AM on February 18. The police conducted a scene of occurrence panchnama and inquest panchnama and have preserved the body at the South Goa District Hospital Morgue for further medical and legal formalities. An Unnatural Death (UD) case has been registered under Section 194 BNSS 2023, with further inquiries being handled by Police Sub-Inspector Babu D. Dessai of the Canacona Police Station.
