MANDREM: While escaping from Goa, the gang responsible for Wednesday’s daylight attack that left Mandrem ex-sarpanch Mahesh Konadkar pummeled and covered in blood was apprehended in Karwar, Karnataka.
A group of five guys beat Konadkar with iron rods as he was returning from dropping his daughter off at school. The assault on a guy with twenty years of political experience has rocked the beach belt of North Goa and is generally seen to be the result of a turf dispute between rival MLAs from the region. Konadkar had claimed after the attack that he had received threats in June as well.
The pressure was on the police to solve the case quickly after the occurrence, which resulted in the summarily reassigned PI of Mandrem Police Station. The police claimed that district-level special teams had been established to find the perpetrators of the crime.
Vishwanath Harijan from Old Goa, Suresh Naik from Porvorim, Sairaj Govekar from Maina-Pilerne, Franky Nadar from St Cruz, Manish Hadfadkar from Chorao, and Uddesh Shetty from Panjim are the six suspects who were apprehended, according to the police.
On Thursday, Pundalik Harijan was taken into custody by Mandrem Police, who also confiscated the car that was reportedly used to transport the attackers.
