Ponda: Newly formed Congress block committee from Ponda tendered mass resignations from the primary membership of the Congress party on Wednesday.
Thirsty eight out of 45 Office Bearers and Executive Members of the Ponda Block Congress Committee, which was recently constituted after dissolving the earlier Block Committee, resigned from their posts and primary membership of the Indian National Congress on 22 December.
All the 38 members had signed their resignation on one paper and submitted it to the President of South Goa District Congress Committee.
Speaking to the media, members said that their previous committee was actively working for the Congress Party; however, they were not taken into confidence by Congress leadership while dissolving the previous Block Congress Committee without giving a satisfactory reason.
The resigned members of Ponda Block Committee Kishore Naik, also former PMC Chairperson, Hussein Mulla former Curti –Khandepar Sarpanch, Achal Verenkar and Dilip Naik, addressed the media the same day. A few months back, Kishore Naik said the Congress leadership dissolved the Ponda Block Congress Committee. Thereafter in protest against this, they met Party Goa Desk Incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao. However, there was no satisfactory reply from Congress leadership. Though they were later included in the recently reconstituted Ponda Block Congress Committee, they were hurt with the action of Party Leadership to dissolve the old committee and so resigned today en masse.
Most of the resigned members are supporters of former MLA Ravi Naik. It may be recalled that former Congress MLA Ravi Naik joined BJP recently BJP. The Congress Party expecting that Ravi may join BJP, has handed over the leadership of Ponda Congress Party to Rajesh Verenkar and declared him party ticket from Ponda Constituency.
