PONDA: Councillor Geetali Talavlikar was elected as a new chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council on Tuesday. Talavlikar was supported by MGP party.
Talavlikar defeated the BJP backed councillor Pradeep Naik by 8 against 7 votes.
It may be recalled that the post of Chairperson was vacant recently after the resignation of Shantaram Colvekar.
During interacting with the press, newly elected Chairperson Geetali Talavlikar said she would emphasise some new developmental works in the Ponda municipal area.
The civic election is non-political, but supporters of various political parties ruled the Council, however with no stability in Council.
After forming Council in 2018 in a fifteen-member council, Pradeep Naik became first Chairperson, later after one year, Venkatesh Naik became Chairperson for another one year thereafter, Vishwanath Dalvi became Chairperson and later Shantaram Colvenkar who resigned a few days back. Geetali is the fifth Chairperson at PMC.
