PANAJI: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak party (MGP) is still open for alliance with regional parties including AAP; however, will not compromise on 16 seats, which they intend to contest.
MGP supremo Ramakrishna Dhavalikar today said that the party has already started work in 12 constituencies and in next fortnight, another six to seven more candidates would be finalized.
“We are firm on contesting in 16 seats. We won’t compromise on it. In the remaining 24 seats, we can either support individuals or candidates of regional parties,” he said.
When asked about their talks with the Arvind Kejriwal led AAP, Dhavalikar said that the option is still open. “We had two meetings with AAP leaders but after that things did not work out as we were expecting. But I can’t say that the AAP option is close,” he said.
The party executive committee is likely to meet next week to decide more candidates.
The party is set to contest in Madkai, Ponda, Shiroda, Priol, Mandrem, Pernem, Sanvordem, Mapusa, Dabolim, Bicholim, Curchorem, Mayem for now.
Meanwhile, after Diwali, November 4, the party will launch Rath Yatra across all 12 talukas, in an effort to reach out to the voters with various works undertaken by MGP since Liberation.
Dhavalikar again clarified rumours and announced that his party will not have an alliance with the BJP, Congress or the NCP in the coming 2022 election.
“We are firm that we will not have any alliance with the BJP as they have humiliated us four times as they threw us out of the alliance midway. At some moment, we have to stop this. Also, we are not forging any alliance with Congress or NCP,” Sudin clarified
He further said that MGP is not in favour of having an alliance with any national party for the upcoming assembly elections slated for February 2022.
Sudin said that the party has its work in 12 constituencies where it will field the candidates, but the number can go up to 24.
Dhavalikar also said the party will promote young leaders in all constituencies and added that they will work under the guidance of the senior leaders of MGP.
