Former Tourism Minister Francisco Xavier Pacheco vowed to bring the Congress party back to power in the upcoming assembly elections to be held in Goa, and assured his support to State president Girish Chodankar and team after joining the Indian National Congress in the presence of General Secretary in charge of organisation KC Venugopal and in charge of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Goa Dinesh Gundu Rao in New Delhi on Saturday.
“Citizens of this country lived a better life under the Congress rule. People didn’t realize it back then. They are realizing it now after seeing the BJP rule. Today, our people have realized the value of Congress. It is for the future generations that we have to work to bring the Congress to power in the upcoming assembly elections,” said Micky, a four-time Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Goa.
When quizzed on the role he will play, Micky said that he is willing to work across the length and breadth of Goa to strength the party organization and support with election strategies. “Look, I’m a political surgeon. I’ve been in politics for over 20 years now. My contribution has been across Goa. I can go to any constituency, work with the people and help get the party candidate elected. I will start by working on strengthening the party organization. I look at this fight as Congress against BJP. It’s a one-on-one fight. As simple as that. Whatever other responsibilities the party delegates to me, I will whole heartedly do,” said Micky, who has represented the Benaulim and Nuvem constituencies in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
