SANVORDEM: With the new mining season set to commence from October, the State Government is confident to resume the iron ore activities through the Goa Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC), which is yet to be formed, in next three months.
The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant was speaking in Sanvordem today, where he visited as part of his Constituency watch ahead of 2022 elections.
Sawant said that the Mining Corporation, will begin the activity like auctioning of the iron ore leases and movement of the already auctioned Ore in next three months.
“In next three months, we will start the activities towards the resumption of mining. It may be auctioning the leases or movement of already auctioned 20 Million tons of ore,” he said.
” We want to start the industry .. sustainable industry…wants to provide a solution for the mining for the next five years,” Sawant said.
The State Government is awaited Consent of the Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai to the Bill that will pave way for formation of the Mining Corporation in the State. The Bill in this regard was passed during the Monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly held last month.
The Corporation will be headed by the Chief Minister.
The mining activities in the State are shut since February 2018 after the Supreme court set aside the second renewals granted to 88 leases terming it as illegal. Last month, the Apex Court also dismissed the review petition filed by the State challenging it’s order.
Meanwhile, in yet another announcement, the Chief Minister said that government proposes to set up the campus of IIT or National Institute of Law or Forensic Institute in Dharbandora taluka.
