PANAJI: With Goa witnessing a rise in accidents, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo today requested DGP Goa to hold a meeting and identify accident-prone spots.
MLA Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo and Kedar Naik today met DGP Goa and urged him to take steps to tackle the rise in accidents.
“Youth above 18+ holding valid license only should be allowed to ride/drive vehicles; some youth ride bikes without license & helmets especially in villages,” said Lobo.
He further also requested DGP to hold meetings & identify accident-prone spots; accidents are on the rise; beds full in GMC: MLA Michael Lobo.
Lobo highlighted the need for practical steps to mitigate accident-prone zones, such as painting speed breakers and erecting clear signages across the State.
He noted that the Assistant Director of Transport had previously written to panchayats, urging them to take proactive steps in enhancing road safety by using their funds to install necessary infrastructure like speed breakers and sign boards.
He called on panchayat members to identify accident-prone zones and collaborate with the Public Works Department (PWD) to rectify these hazardous areas. “The panchayat members should identify accident-prone zones and write to the PWD to get the work done to correct the situation,” he added.
Lobo also pointed out the frequent blame-shifting among departments when road safety issues arise. “Many times, the departments blame each other when things go wrong,” he noted, underscoring the need for better coordination and accountability among various governmental bodies involved in road safety.
Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo urged parents not to allow their children to ride/drive vehicles without a license.
“We as parents have to follow rules; recommends DGP to take strict action against parents who allow their children to ride without a license,” said Delilah.
