MORMUGAO: MLA Sankalp Amonkar inaugurated the newly upgraded burial ground at the Hindu Crematorium in Bogda, a project undertaken under the MLA Local Area Development (LAD) Scheme and executed by the Public Works Department.
The redevelopment aims to provide a cleaner, safer and more dignified environment for families conducting last rites and addresses a long-pending demand of residents for improved facilities at the site.
For years, sections of the burial ground had reportedly remained neglected, with garbage accumulation, overgrown vegetation and inadequate maintenance causing inconvenience to visitors and bereaved families.
Speaking at the inauguration, Amonkar said the project was taken up following repeated representations from local residents regarding the poor condition of the burial ground. He emphasized that every family deserves access to a well-maintained and respectful space to perform the final rites of their loved ones and that civic amenities of this nature should receive due attention.
Residents welcomed the initiative, stating that the upgraded facility has significantly improved the overall condition of the area and made it more accessible and user-friendly.
Amonkar also assured that efforts would continue to strengthen public infrastructure across the constituency and address civic concerns raised by local communities.
