VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) held a special council meeting on Friday to discuss the arrangements for the 125th Annual Damodar Bhajani Saptah Festival. The meeting, led by Chairperson Girish Borker and Chief Officer Deepesh Priolkar, brought together councillors and staff to ensure this year’s festival is an unforgettable experience for devotees and residents alike.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, MMC Chairperson Girish Borker expressed the council’s commitment to making the 125th Saptah Festival a landmark event. “Plans are afoot to make this year’s Saptah Festival a memorable one.Last year, we set a record by collecting Rs 98 lakhs in revenue during the festival. This year, we aim to surpass Rs 1 crore.”said Borker
In honor of the festival’s 125th year, the MMC has significantly increased its annual donation. “We usually donate Rs 50,000 for the Saptah Festival. This year, we will offer Rs 1.25 lakhs to mark this special occasion.” Said Borker
To enhance the festive atmosphere, the MMC has called on the community to participate in lighting up the area.
“We have appealed to every house, hotel, building, and office along the main roads in Vasco to decorate their premises with lights. We want the entire area around the Damodar Temple to be bright and well-illuminated. The council has also enlisted the help of ward councillors to extend this initiative throughout the municipality. We have asked all ward councillors to request temples and residents in their areas to illuminate their homes and public spaces,” Borker added.
In a bid to promote environmental responsibility, the MMC has decided to ban single-use plastics during the festival.
“We want to ensure a clean and green Saptah. Security guards will also be deployed around the municipal garden to prevent misuse and maintain its cleanliness,” said Borker
With these comprehensive plans, the MMC is gearing up to celebrate the 125th Damodar Saptah Festival with grandeur and community spirit, ensuring it remains a cherished event for years to come.
