KUSHAVATI: A meeting on monsoon preparedness in Kushavati District was chaired by Ms. Egna Cleetus, IAS, Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kushavati, in the presence of the Additional Collector-II and Deputy Collector, Kushavati-I.
All line department officers attended the review meeting, where detailed directions were issued to strengthen preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.
Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) were instructed to identify and trim dangerous trees before the onset of rains and ensure timely disposal of cases under the Trees Act. They were further directed to carry out joint inspections with departments such as the Public Works Department (PWD) and Water Resources Department (WRD) to ensure cleaning of drains and gutters.
It was also directed that the concerned Talathi be immediately informed whenever any field-level activity is undertaken, to ensure proper monitoring and documentation of progress.
The Health Department has been instructed to ensure adequate ambulance availability and strengthen emergency preparedness, including readiness at Primary Health Centres (PHCs). SDMs were also asked to convene meetings of Vector-Borne Disease Committees to prevent outbreaks during the monsoon period.
In addition, SDMs were directed to coordinate with Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Municipal Chief Officers for identification and action on dilapidated structures. They were also asked to identify suitable locations for installing warning signage near water bodies and to map flood-prone and vulnerable areas with the help of Talathis.
Taluka-level coordination meetings involving all line departments were also mandated to ensure unified preparedness efforts. Departments were instructed to identify all nallas and drainage systems and complete inspections within the current month.
The Collector stated that weekly review meetings will be held to monitor progress and ensure timely completion of all pre-monsoon works, which have been directed to be completed by May 10.
All departments have been urged to work in coordination to ensure effective disaster preparedness and minimise monsoon-related risks in the district.
