PANAJI: The Movaj Mini India Project proposed in the Khazan lands at Quelossim has been put on hold by the High Court.
“According to us, it will be appropriate if the respondent no.4 does not undertake any work at the said property, during the pendency of this petition,” states the court order.
GCZMA had issued a stop-work order and show cause notice for the project in 2019.
The project involves setting up of several miniatures of monuments from across India on floating pontoons that tourists could access by boats, serviced by a five-star resort.
Residents of Quellosim village have been opposing the project proposed by Pune-based firm Movaj Enterprises near the River Zuari. The project also includes a 5-star resort, houseboats, floating cottages and water sports activities over 35,000 square metres.
The land was initially tenanted, but it has become the property of non-agricultural agencies over the years.
Khazans, as per the CRZ notification 2011 and as per RP 2021, are no-development zone. There are also a huge population of mangroves on the property.
The GCZMA and the State Biodiversity Board have made several visits to the area, on each occasion documenting further CRZ violations
