New Delhi: Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three day visit aimed at strengthening the growing strategic partnership between India and Japan. Calling it her “very first” visit to India, Takaichi reaffirmed Tokyo’s commitment to expanding cooperation with New Delhi across a range of critical sectors.
Shortly after arriving in the national capital, the Japanese Prime Minister shared her enthusiasm about visiting India for the first time and said she looked forward to discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on major global and bilateral issues.
Takaichi said her meetings with the Indian Prime Minister would focus on pressing challenges such as economic security and energy security while exploring new opportunities to deepen collaboration between the two nations.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed his Japanese counterpart to India and expressed confidence that the talks would further strengthen the long standing Special Strategic and Global Partnership shared by the two countries.
A key focus of the visit will be expanding cooperation in areas such as investment, innovation, energy, emerging technologies and economic resilience. The two leaders are expected to hold a summit meeting to review progress in bilateral relations and identify new avenues for partnership.
Japan views India as a crucial partner in its vision for a free and open Indo Pacific region, making the relationship increasingly important amid shifting geopolitical and economic dynamics.
The discussions are also expected to build on the joint vision for the next decade announced during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan in 2025, when Tokyo committed investments worth 10 trillion yen in India over the coming ten years.
India and Japan have steadily expanded cooperation across trade, infrastructure development, defence, security, clean energy and advanced technologies, making the partnership one of the most significant strategic relationships in the Indo Pacific region.
