PANAJI: A detailed presentation on the National Aquifer Mapping (NAQUIM) outputs for North Goa district was made by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) at the Conference Hall of the Collectorate, North Goa, Panaji, in the presence of Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Collector, North Goa.
The presentation highlighted key findings on groundwater status and aquifer characteristics based on comprehensive pre-monsoon and post-monsoon assessments carried out across the district. Officials shared detailed data on groundwater levels, recharge conditions, extraction trends, and sustainability aspects of aquifers, providing an updated scientific overview of the district’s groundwater scenario.
The NAQUIM study forms part of a nationwide initiative aimed at systematically mapping aquifers to support evidence-based planning and sustainable water resource management.
Senior officials from the Water Resources Department (WRD), Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB), Drinking Water Department, and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) attended the meeting. The concerned departments will examine the findings and take necessary steps to ensure sustainable groundwater management and long-term water security in North Goa.
The Collector stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination and scientific planning to safeguard groundwater resources in the district.
