SALIGAO: The Nationalist Congress Party has requested Governor not to succumb to the pressure from the BJP government and give his consent to the Bhumiputra bill as it was passed hastily in the assembly without having proper deliberations.
The Bill was passed amid a walkout by the Opposition, which accused the government of rushing the poorly thought out bills without adequate discussion.
In the Just concluded assembly session, the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill, 2021, was tabled and hurriedly passed.
According to the proposed law, any person who is a resident of Goa for more than 30 years qualifies as a’bhumiputra’ (son of the soil) and can apply for ownership of a house (up to a plinth area of 250 square metres) s/he has been living in even if the government owns the land on which it stands, a private person or commonly owned. Any structure built before April 1, 2019, qualifies for ownership..
Addressing a news conference at Mapusa, NCP general secretary Sanjay Barde said that the Bhumipatra bill was passed in the assembly without even holding proper deliberations in the assembly.
“if through this bill the government wants to give rights to the real sons of the soils, then they should try and provide Jobs for the Goans first or else just passing such kind of bills passed in the assembly is only a farce,” said Barde.
The passing of this Bill was done in haste, and even the speaker was in pressure to pass the Bill now the Governor should not succumb to the pressure of the government and give his assent on the Bill to make it a law,” said barde
“it looked were lions trying to attack the speaker of the assembly to pass the bill, and the speaker succumbed to the pressure of the current government in the assembly and hastily passed the bill even without giving sufficient time for the opposition MLAs to deliberate on it,” said Barde.
Speaking further, he said that this Bill will only give an impetus for non-goans to come and settle here which will be vote banks for the BJP government, Barde further said.
