PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has informed that the state government has taken initiative to build a new building for Museum in the State.
“State government has taken initiative to build a new building for Museum in the State.Application for availing financial grant under Museum Scheme has been sent to Culture Ministry, Govt. of India,” said CM Sawant
He further informed that a land admeasuring 9520 sq. mtrs has been transferred by Agriculture department to Directorate of Museum and that the detailed project report is prepared by GSIDC, with an estimates of costs for new building of Goa State Museum.
As per details, the phase 1 will approximatley cost Rs 11,58,93,250.00 while the second phase will cost the state government 9,99,22,421.96 which comes to a total of Rs. 21,58,15,671.96.
It may be recalled that the Goa State museum originally located in its premises at Patto, was temporarily moved to the Adil Shah Palace in 2017, as the museum building had been crumbling due to water seepage and roof leaks, every monsoon season. The building was hardly two decades old. The Goa State Museum has 10,000 plus artifacts.
As per information that the construction of a new museum building at Ella could take two to three years.
