PANAJI: Amidst the rumours of possible further re-shuffle, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade categorically ruled out any such move of the party or the Chief Minster.
Following Aleixo Sequeira’s induction into the cabinet post resignation of PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral, there were rumours come speculations with regards to possible inclusion of two more Congress turncoat as committed by the party at their time of joining into saffron fold.
Among the aspirants for a place in the cabinet were former Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat, former minister Michael Lobo and Aleixo Sequeira.
There were many rumors that eleven MLAs met in a five-star hotel in Cavelossim with the intention of overthrowing Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant.
According to BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, there was never a meeting to rebel against the chief minister because the MLAs were too busy campaigning for the election.
“I don’t believe there will be any more cabinet reshuffles; if there were, CM would have let us know. Cabral’s decision to heed the party’s request and step down was admirable,” said Tanavade
“I appreciate Nilesh Cabral giving up his position as minister. It’s his magnificence. He belongs to the core committee. He resigned with great regret. He’s responded really well to it, Tanavade said.
Aleixo Sequeira, former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Kedar Naik, Sankalp Amonkar, Rajesh Faldesai, and Rudolf Fernandes joined the BJP on September 14 of last year, leaving the Congress with just three Members of Legislative Assembly out of 40.
Since then, there have been rumors that Aleixo Sequeira and other members would be appointed to the cabinet.
Following the most recent political development, Congress has declared that these eight MLAs have betrayed people by switching sides for their own gain.
On Sunday evening, after the swearing-in ceremony at the Raj Bhavan, when asked about his discussion with the Chief Minister regarding portfolios,
Sequeira said, “If I was the CM I would have selected the portfolio I wanted. That is his prerogative. [In the past] I have been Power Minister, Environment Minister…I also held the most exciting portfolio of Minister of Printing and Stationary.”
